Sokka is Katara’s older 15 year old brother. He has no powers like his sister but is very smart. The Last Airbender Story
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, here is the basic story of The Last Airbender. There was a boy named Aang who is an Airbender. He’s 12 years old and finds out that he’s the new Avatar. The Avatar is a special person who can control all four elements.
There is only one Avatar in each generation He has the responsibility of keeping the peace among the four nations. Having this kind of responsibility is just too much for Aang, which is understandable being that he is still a child. Aang runs away riding on Appa who is his flying bison animal guide.
Unfortunately the two get caught up in a bad storm and they crash into the ocean. As the Avatar, he goes into a protective suspended animation inside of an iceberg.
After Aang disappears, Fire Lord Sozin decides to declare war on the Air Nomads so as to wipe out the Avatar too. He does this in hopes of ruling the world. 100 years go by. A Waterbender girl named Katara, who is 14, and her 15 year old brother Sokka accidentally release Aang from his frozen state.
Zuko who is the Prince of Fire Nation, catches wind of the Avatar being found. Zuko was exiled by his father, Fire Lord Ozai. Zuko assumes the Avatar is over a hundred years old now and demands the elderly residents of the Southern Water Tribe so as to find him. Aang can’t allow the elderly residents to be harmed and surrenders. His one condition is that Zuko has to leave the village alone.
Zuko takes Aang aboard his ship and is being held by guards. Aang manages to escape the guards and escapes with the help of Katara and Sokku who arrive on Appa to take him away.
The three go to the Southern Air Temple. There, Aang learns just exactly how long he has been away, stuck in the ice. He learns that the Fire Nation has wiped out everyone that Aang had known before. There is one remaining being, a winged lemurbat named Momo, who joins up with Aang and his friends.
While this is going one, elsewhere, Zuko and Iroh, who is his uncle come across Commander Zhao who makes fun of Zuko.
Aang, and his group go to a small Earth Kingdom town and while helping a boy named Hau, they are arrested. This town is controlled by the Fire Nation. After their arrest, the group incites a rebellion with a inspiring speech.
A little later Katara works on her waterbending skills after finding a waterbending dcroll. She also helps Aang to improve his waterbending skills too. They go to the Northern Water Tribe and liberate more Earth Kingdom towns.
Aang goes off by himself to the Northern Air Temple and is captured by Yuu Yan archers, who are Fire Nation warriors commanded by Admiral Zhao. He is rescued by the Blue Spirit, a masked savior who himself is knocked out during the mayhem. The big surprise is that the Blue Spirit is actually Zuko. Aang returns the favor and saves Zuko.
Zhao knows that Zuko is the Blue Spirit and decides to kill him. Fortunately the attempt on Zuko’s life fails. With the help of his uncle Iroh, Zuko sneaks onto Zhao’s ship. The ship is going to the Northern Water Tribe and Zuko wants to execute the plan Ozai and Zuko set up with the scrolls from the Library detailing the spirits there.
When Aang and his friends arrive, the Northern Water Tribe folks give the group a warm welcome. Katara and Aang get waterbending lessons from Pakku. Sokku meets the beautiful princess Yue and falls in love with her.
Soon after the Fire Nation warriors under the command of Zhao arrive and attack the Northern Water Tribe. Zuko sneaks in and captures Aang while he entered the spirit world to get the wisdom to defeat the Fire Nation from the dragon spirit. Aang comes to and fights Zuko. Katara saves the day by freezing Zuko.
Meanwhile the Fire Nation warriors’ battle is heating up. Zhao slays the moon spirit Tui while Iroh watches. This causes the waterbenders to lose all their power. The princess Yue was gifted as a newborn with some of the Moon Spirit’s energy. In the ultimate sacrifice, Yue gives her life to bring the Moon Spirit back to life. The Waterbenders regain their power and drown Zhao.
Ozai hears of Zhao’s death and Iroh’s betrayal. He then appoints his daughter Azula to go after Aang and try to destroy him before the Sozin’s Comet returns in 3 years.
My kids have loved watching the Airbender cartoons on Nickelodeon. I bet they would enjoy dressing like their favorite character for Halloween.
